UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In January, Penn State Extension will offer a three-day webinar series, titled “Poultry Welfare Certification Course,” that will cover animal welfare, poultry behavior, biosecurity, health and disease, and other topics.
The course, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 17, 18 and 19, is designed for poultry producers, agricultural workers, animal scientists and veterinarians. Leading experts will discuss hot topics in the layer and meat-bird industries.
The course will cover:
— Why animal welfare is important.
— Poultry behavior.
— Environmental and management influences on welfare.
— Welfare indicators and assessment.
— Employee motivation.
— Biosecurity.
— Health and disease.
Upon successful completion of the course and passing an exam, attendees will receive a certificate.
Registration is required to receive the link to access the series. Participants can register through 10 a.m. Jan. 17 for a $15 fee. Registrants also will receive access to the webinar recordings.
