UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Extension’s Livestock Team will host a workshop titled “So You Want to Raise Beef Cattle?” from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on September 10 at the American Philatelic Center, 100 Match Factory Place, Bellefonte. This free workshop is for future, new and existing producers who want to learn more about the beef cattle industry.
“Beef production can be a desirable farm enterprise for new and beginning farmers because of the relatively low input needed up front,” said Tara Felix, extension beef specialist and assistant professor of animal science in the College of Agricultural Sciences. “This workshop will introduce farmers to the basics of beef production from breeds to general management. Whether you’re just starting a beef operation or just curious about what it might take to start one, this workshop will help you.”
Attendees will learn the basics of raising beef cattle for production. Penn State Extension experts will cover basic production practices aimed at achieving goals for raising beef, including beef cattle husbandry, breed selection, nutrition, health management and marketing.
