YORK, Pa. — Are you passionate about gardening and like to share gardening knowledge with others? If so, you might be interested in becoming a Penn State York County Master Gardener. 2020 classes are scheduled to begin in mid-August. This year’s classes will be Tuesdays from 3p to 6p.
The mission of the Penn State Master Gardener program is to bring unbiased research-based information from the University to the public. In exchange for 40 hours of instruction, trainees agree to give 50 hours of volunteer service to Penn State Extension the first year. To retain certification, Master Gardeners must volunteer 20 hours and complete 10 hours of continuing education each year. In York County Master Gardeners volunteer in many ways: Creating and setting up educational displays; working the Garden Hotline; working with at-risk youth at the gardens at John Rudy County Park; giving presentations to groups; and much more.
There is a program fee of $200.00 to cover the cost of training materials and expenses. Fee can be negotiated in the event of need.
