HARRISBURG, Pa. — An annual tradition will take place again this year on Saturday, Aug. 7 to offer beef producers the opportunity to hear about feeding cows, reaching customers, and utilizing available tools in the industry.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. for the free event that is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s’ Association (PCA), National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), and the Pennsylvania Beef Producers’ Working Group.
Introductions begin at 9:15, when the day opens with breakout sessions including “Feeding Cows at $8 Corn” by Dr. Tara Felix, Penn State Extension Beef Specialist, and “Reaching Your Customers in A Digital Era” by Kaitlyn Swope, Director of Consumer Affairs, Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative.
Shane Bedwell, American Hereford Association, will give an industry update as it relates to beef herds across the country, followed by an “Industry Issues in the New Washington” presentation by Ethan Lane, Vice President of Government Affairs, NCBA. Bedwell will return to give a “Utilizing All Available Tools for Success in the Beef Industry” presentation.
The day ends at 3 p.m. followed by an optional tour of Paul and Bette Slayton’s Beardance operation and their cow herd.
The event will take place at Slayton’s Beardance, 2272 Dibert Road, Bedford, PA 15522.
The day also includes a free PCA ribeye steak sandwich lunch and trade show.
