EMERYVILLE, Calif. — On Feb. 13, Pattern Ag released its new Predictive Ag Report, a resource corn and soybean farmers can use to make better informed decisions about managing the most economically impactful pests and pathogens, including corn rootworm (CRW) and sudden death syndrome (SDS) in their fields.

Pattern Ag operates the world’s largest soil metagenomics database, with more than 200 billion DNA reads. The Predictive Ag Report is an anonymized, aggregated analysis of the Pattern Ag data. Available in print or digital form, the report predicts pest and pathogen risks 12 months in advance with more than 90% accuracy. This information can help agronomists and farmers make better informed pest management decisions when selecting seed varieties or crop protection inputs.

The Predictive Ag Report also includes agronomic research information from the Pattern Ag Grower’s Initiative (PAGI) about two projects conducted in 2022, including research to establish a first-ever SDS economic threshold and a deeper understanding of soil health.

Pattern Ag plans to make the Predictive Ag Report available annually to help corn and soybean farmers offset economic losses caused by yield-impacting diseases – losses Hranac said totaled 600 million bushels of corn on U.S. farms in 2021 and $173 billion in damage to crops worldwide caused by SCN.
