CORTLAND CO., N.Y. — Register here to join Cornell Cooperative Extension, Penn State Extension, and the NY & PA Farm Bureaus for the third webinar in the four-part series Navigating the Leasing Process of Utility-Scale and Community Solar in New York and Pennsylvania on Wednesday March 16th from 12:00 – 1:15.

During this webinar, ‘Evaluating Key Contract Terms When Leasing Your Land to Solar Energy Development’ attorney Jacob Kiessling will take a deeper dive into solar leases, based on solar contract reviews he has completed. This will offer landowners more background as they discuss a possible lease with their own attorney and potentially negotiate the agreements with an interested solar company. The last 15 minutes are reserved for Q&A (the last webinar of the series is reserved for questions the presenters are unable to get to during this 15-minutes Q&A session).

You can also now register for the fourth part of the series ‘Solar Leasing Questions, Answers, and Wrap-up on Wednesday March 23rd from 12:00 – 1:15 pm. In this session the veteran speakers from the previous solar events will return to offer their comments to questions you may still have with the topic of leasing for solar energy development. No formal presentation will be made this session is specifically to answer your questions – so bring plenty! (Note the speakers will not be answering questions that require special attention, it is recommended if you have been contacted by a developer that you reach out to an attorney for a personal consultation).

About the Series

The event is part of the four-part Navigating the Leasing Process of Utility-Scale and Community Solar in New York and Pennsylvania series. In conjunction with New York and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Penn State Extension and Cornell Extension are offering the series on leasing land for utility-scale and community solar in the region. Increasing numbers of landowners, including many farmers, are being approached to lease their land for large solar facilities. Others may be interested in leasing to a solar developer. It is important for anyone considering leasing their land to understand the implications of the leasing process.

The Navigating the Leasing Process of Utility-Scale and Community Solar in New York and Pennsylvania series will explore why solar is rapidly expanding in New York and Pennsylvania, the overall trends driving this emergence, and the contractual details which will be a part of an option/lease agreement landowners might be offered to sign. The program is not advocating for or against leasing land for solar but is designed to offer insights for anyone interested in leasing land to solar developers. There will also be a short immersive virtual solar tour to better inform participants of the various elements of solar facilities and what they look like while and after they are being installed. Participants will be better prepared to make decisions about whether leasing makes sense for them and, if they wish to proceed, to negotiate an outcome that accommodates the landowner’s long-term plans. Each of the programs will include a Question-and-Answer session.
