OLYMPIA, Wash. — January 1, 2024 sheep and lambs inventory in Idaho was estimated at 235,000 head, unchanged from 2023. Inventory of sheep and lambs in Oregon was 155,000 head, unchanged from last year. In Washington, sheep and lambs inventory totaled 45,000 head, down 4 percent from January 1, 2023. Nationally, January 1 all sheep and lambs inventory was estimated at 5.03 million head. This was down 2 percent from January 1, 2023.
January 1, 2024 milk goat inventory in Idaho totaled 6,500 head, up 2 percent from 2023. Inventory of milk goats in Oregon was estimated at 14,300 head, up 2 percent from last year. In Washington, milk goat inventory was 8,200 head, up 3 percent from the previous year. Nationally, January 1 milk goat inventory was estimated at 415,000 head, up 1 percent from January 1, 2023.
January 1, 2024 inventory of meat and other goats in Oregon was estimated at 26,000 head, down 4 percent from last year. In Washington, meat and other goat inventory was 17,000 head, down 8 percent from the previous year. Nationally, January 1 meat and other goat inventory was estimated at 1.95 million head, down 3 percent from January 1, 2023.
All goats and kids inventory in the United States on January 1, 2024, totaled 2.47 million head, down 2 percent from 2023.
