WALPOLE, N.H. — On a cold, wintry night in December of 2020, the Monadnock Farm and Community Coalition (MFCC) staged an online virtual event, “Stories From the Field: Celebrating our Local Food System in Words,” hosted by NHPR’s Kate McNally. In a similar style to The Moth storytelling hour, local folks in the Monadnock region who grow, educate about, prepare, advocate for, or eat locally grown food shared personal stories about their connections to our food system.
This virtual feast comes to the NHPR airwaves, part of a special Thanksgiving programming, “Your Soundtrack For a Day of Gratitude”, November 24 – 25, 2021. This one-hour broadcast called “Stories from the Field: A Special Broadcast from the Monadnock Farm & Community Coalition and NHPR,” features speakers: Martin Castriotta of Village Roots Permaculture in E. Alstead; Holly Gowdy of Brookfield Organic Farm in Walpole, Chef Jordan Scott of Machina Kitchen & ArtBar in Keene, and Beth Hodge of Echo Farm Puddings in Hinsdale.
“We are thrilled to join NHPR for an encore presentation of our Stories from the Field… event,” says Roe-Ann Tasoulas, MFCC director. “Marty Castriotta is a farmer, an educator, and master storyteller. Jordan Scott’s story about how Keene High School’s culinary arts class saved his life, Beth Hodge’s palpable love for her cows, and Holly Gowdy’s ascension into farming takes listeners on journeys they won’t soon forget,” she adds.
The “Stories From the Field…” event celebrates the contribution of local food to our well-being, economies, and environment – made more evident in the COVID-19 pandemic. Join MFCC and NHPR as we celebrate another great year of the harvest, of farming, and of community, in this inspiring broadcast. Prepare yourself for some laughs, a tear or two, but mostly insight into the lives of those who work to bring food to our tables, and one whose life it has changed.
This is a family friendly event.
