HARRISBURG, Pa. — Are you a farmer looking for an opportunity to transition your farm to the next generation, scale back from farming, or transition from your farm business to pursue other adventures? Or are you someone looking for an opportunity to enter into a farming business? Pennsylvania Farm Link, a non-profit organization dedicated to “Linking Farmers to the Future”, may hold the answer to your quest!
PA Farm Link accomplishes their mission through a land linking database which matches landowners with perspective entering farmers. Entering farmers are looking for land to establish their business; landowners are seeking someone to lease or purchase their farm and desire the land remain in farming. Through PA Farm Link’s database, both goals may be met. This process positively impacts Pennsylvania Agriculture as well as economic and business and industry throughout the Commonwealth.
PA Farm Link also offers educational workshops throughout the year to both entering farmers and landowners. For new or beginning farmers, workshops provide a realistic picture of how to start a farm business, utilizing the expertise of agricultural professionals. For farm owners looking to transition their farm to the next generation, PFL offers Farm Succession workshops and private consultations to help aid farm owners in their efforts to formulate a transition plan.
The PA Farm Link website offers a wealth of information to all farmers including a resource page and the online database. The online database for both Entering Farmers and Farm Landowners is available 24/7 for anyone wishing to search listings. Please note that due to PA Farm Link privacy policies, no contact information on any listing is included. If you are interested in a farm for sale or lease, PFL will require you to send a resume and cover letter to be forwarded onto the landowner. If you are a farm owner interested in one of the PFL Entering Farmer listings, PFL would ask that you send detailed information on your farming opportunity to PFL and the information will be forwarded to the Entering Farmer for review.
To apply to be a Landowner or Entering Farmer, please consult the PA Farm Link website at www.pafarmlink.org and click on RESOURCES at the top of the page. From there you can complete payment ($100) and submit your application. The application fee is a onetime fee. As long as you continue to look for a farm to lease or buy or as long as you are looking for a buyer or tenant, and as long as you respond to the PFL yearly update, there would be no additional fees incurred. Listings are available 24/7 to anyone searching the website and are advertised via social media, e-newsletters, and promotional handouts.
This could be the chance you’ve been waiting for to take the next step in your future farming or retirement plans!
