CAMP HILL, Pa. —Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) has taken a neutral position on Senate Bill 147 now that an amendment that requires hunters to obtain written permission to hunt on private land on Sundays has been added to the bill. The neutral position means Farm Bureau will neither support nor oppose the legislation.
The bill now includes the key elements outlined by Farm Bureau policy to shift PFB’s position from opposed to neutral. Those elements include limiting the number of Sunday hunting days to a maximum of three days per year, making trespassing a primary offense enforceable by the state Game Commission, increasing penalties for hunters who violate trespassing laws and requiring hunters to get written permission from landowners prior to hunting on their land for the three Sundays authorized by SB 147.
After PFB announced it had taken a neutral position, the bill was passed by the state House. SB 147 now moves back to the Senate for concurrence.
If the bill is passed by the Senate and signed by the Governor, it would go into effect in 2020.
Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is the state’s largest farm organization, representing farms of every size and commodity across Pennsylvania.
