BAYLIS, Ill. — University of Illinois researchers will provide updates on the latest findings at the Orr Beef Research Center Field Day on Nov. 5. Activities begin at 5 p.m. at the research facility west of Perry.

Dan Shike, Illinois animal science associate professor, will provide information on the influence of bypass proteins on creep feed diets and the effect of injectable vitamin C on newly-weaned calves. Research results of extended dry-lot housing of beef cows will also be presented.

Producers will learn least-cost ration options for beef cattle from Travis Meteer, University of Illinois Extensioncommercial ag educator. He will also provide an overview of current and future research projects at the center.

“Producers will get the latest information on policy decisions impacting cattle market price discovery, as well as livestock insurance options,” Meteer says. “Participants can tour the center to see the new cattle handling facilities, calving barn, and commodity bay feed storage, as well as updated dry-lot pens.”

Registration is required and limited spaces are available. Participants are required to wear masks and maintain social distancing. All activities will be outside, and appropriate clothing is encouraged. To register or to request accommodations, contact Meteer at 217-430-7030 or wmeteer2@illinois.edu.
