LEBANON, Ore. — The Oregon Seed Association’s (OSA) Scholarship Committee recognized four talented individuals as recipients of awards during its 2022 Mid-Winter Meeting, held on January 20, 2022, in Lebanon, Oregon, at the Boulder Falls Inn and Conference Center.

Christian Lessey was awarded the Oregon Seed Association/Oregon State University Scholarship and the Oregon Seed Cleaning Scholarship. Lessey is a native of SE Portland.

Lessey’s family moved to Salt Lake City when he was 10 where he graduated from Skyline High School. He moved back to Oregon when he was 21 and worked in construction and on an organic farm, and then enrolled full-time at Oregon State University (OSU) focusing on crop and soil science. His long-term plan is to work with farmers on sustainability and efficiency.

The OSA/OSU Scholarship award was established to assist those in need who are seeking higher education within the College of Agricultural Sciences at OSU. The OSU Crop & Soil Science scholarship committee coordinates nominations of qualified recipients.

The Oregon Seed Cleaning Scholarship recipient must be an Oregon resident and enrolled at Oregon State University. Students must be entering their junior or senior year of college, in good academic standing, majoring in Crop & Soil Sciences or Ag Business, and have an interest in pursuing a career in the seed business.
