MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — Did you know? Milk and dairy products are New York state’s top agricultural commodity! Do you want your child to learn more about where milk comes from and see the cows that make it, right here in our county?
Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County’s 4-H Program is organizing a 4-week opportunity for youth called Dairy Explorers beginning Wednesday, June 15th through Wednesday, July 6th from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M.
The program will be hosted by two local Orange County dairy farms: Stap Dairy in Pine Bush, NY for two weeks and Spruce Gate Holsteins in Walden, NY for two weeks. Youth participants will be able to see the farms, learn about how farmers take care of their cows, and do fun crafts and activities! There will also be an opportunity for participants to learn how to groom and show a calf at CCE Orange County’s Agriculture and Family Festival held July 29th to 31st at the Education Center & 4-H Park in Otisville, N.Y.
“We are excited to offer this opportunity to youth and to give them hands-on experiences while learning about the dairy industry,” said Grace Ott, Orange County 4-H Livestock, Dairy, & Equine Educator.
The cost to join Dairy Explorers is $25 per youth and a limited amount of 20 spots are available. The suggested age range for the program is 8-12, but any youth over 8 are welcome. Registration is required by Monday, June 13th. You can register online now at www.CCEOrangeCounty.org/events. Please contact Grace Ott at gco26@cornell.edu or 845-344-1234 with any questions.
