FRAZEYSBURG, Ohio — For 25 years the Ohio Christmas Tree Association (OCTA) has been shipping Christmas trees to the military stationed overseas as part of their service project Operation Evergreen. On Nov. 12, growers from around the state along with many volunteers traveled to Galehouse Tree Farm in Doylestown, Ohio to pack 100 trees to be shipped overseas.
According to Valerie Graham, Executive Director for the OCTA, ”The trees were inspected by officials from the Ohio Department of Agriculture, then packaged with plenty of homemade ornaments donated by civic groups and shipped to Kuwait. “Graham says the trees will arrive just after Thanksgiving, giving the troops plenty of time to enjoy a taste of home for the holidays.
OCTA is collecting ornaments, notes or monetary donations throughout the year. If you are interested in donating, you can do so by contacting the OCTA Office at val@ohiochristmastree.org or submitting the items to the OCTA Office at 6870 Licking Valley Rd., Frazeysburg, OH 43822.
