CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — The 46th Ontario County Dairy Princess Court Pageant was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County. John Mueller was the emcee for the evening. The 2016-2017 Dairy Princess Court was introduced by Nancy Anderson, Chairman. Dairy Princess: Lindsey Weykman. Alternate Dairy Princesses: Claire DeBoover, Elizabeth Maslyn, Rachel Rouland. Dairy Ambassadors were Morgan Cowan, Molly Mueller. Nancy also introduced the new Ambassadors for 2017-2018: Emma Jacobson, Sayje Hinkle, Abby Rouland, and Grace Maslyn.
Congratulations were extended to Lindsey and her court for achieving the highest incentive award from the American Dairy Association North East. It was also announced that Lindsey and her court had achieved Runner-up for Promoter of the Year with the American Dairy Association Northeast. They accomplished 85 school programs, 4 Refuel With Chocolate Milk Events, 302 public relations, 8 farm meetings, 278 Public Service Announcements, 4 Fuel Up to Play 60, and 26 consumer outreach events.
It was a pleasure to have the 2017-2018 Second Alternate State Princess, Grace Harrigan attend the coronation. She is the 17 year old daughter of Todd and Diane Harrigan, Chateaugay, NY in Clinton County. She gave a short message from American Dairy Associaation North East and the dairy industry.
Elizabeth and Rachel gave a speech on “Large Farms, small farms, family farms, corporate farms, organic farms and conventional farms. As Dairy Princess, how do you promote them all?”
The Dairy Ambassadors had one of the following speech titles based on the key talking points developed by ADANE: Environmental Stewardship; On Farm Practices; Animal Care; and Cow Comfort; Nutrition in Dairy Products; or Dairy Products.
The judges for the evening were Tracy Altman, 1994 Wayne County Dairy Princess and a Guidance Counselor at Newark Middle School; John Kriese, Agricultural teacher and FFA advisor at Penn Yan Academy; and Ryan VanDamme of Canandaigua, part owner of ProPower Associates.
The 2017-2018 Dairy Princess Court:
Ontario County Dairy Princess, Elizabeth Maslyn is the daughter of Peter and Julie Maslyn of Farmington. She is a junior at Red Jacket High School where she is active in National Honor Society, track and cross country. She is a member of 4-H and Youth Group. Elizabeth wants to be Dairy Princess to teach about how wonderful the dairy industry is and the benefits of having dairy in your diet. Her future plans include attending Morrisville and Cornell and someday owning her own farm.
Alternate Dairy Princess, Rachel Rouland is the daughter of Tim and Kim Rouland of Clifton Springs She is a junior at Midlakes High School. She is active in the Giddy Up Gang 4-H Club, member of the NY Holstein Association, and the Wayne Ontario Holstein Club. She wants to be an Alternate Princess to help promote dairy products and to put in a good word for farmers. She plans to attend college majoring in Animal Science.
Alternate Dairy Princess, Lindsey Weykman is the daughter of Jason and Lori Weykman of Clifton Springs. She is a junior at Midlakes High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society, Midlakes Athletic Leadership Organization (MALO), and the Midlakes Archery Team. She is a member of the Farm Friends 4-H Club. Lindsey owns registered Holsteins, Lineback and Ayshire cattle. Lindsey spent the last year as the 2016-2017 Dairy Princess promoting the hardworking farmers and shortening the gap between farmers and consumers. She plans to attend college and major in Animal Science.
Dairy Ambassador Molly Mueller is the daughter of John and Sally Mueller of Clifton Springs. She is a freshman at Midlakes High School, where she is a member of the Midlakes Athletic Leadership Organization (MALO). Molly is a member of the Farm Friends 4-H Club. Molly wants to be an Ambassador to help spread knowledge about the dairy industry to people of all ages.
Dairy Ambassador Morgan Cowan is the daughter of Sara Cowan of Clifton Springs. Morgan is a 7th grader at Midlakes Middle School where she is a member of the school and YMCA swim teams. Morgan is active in the Farm Friends 4-H Club and enjoys showing cows at the county fair. She wants to be a Dairy Ambassador to help inform people about the dairy industry straight from the source.
Dairy Ambassador Sayje Hinkle is the daughter of Irene Reed-Schutt and Alan Schutt of Clifton Springs. She attends Midlakes Intermediate School. She is active in 4-H, Wayne-Ontario Holstein Club and is a Junior Girls Scout. She wants to be a Dairy Ambassador so she can explain to the public how milk is made.
Dairy Ambassador Emma Jacobson is the daughter of Irene Reed-Schutt and Alan Schutt of Clifton Springs. Emma is a Junior Girl Scout, a Dance with Me dancer, a member of the Wayne-Ontario Holstein Club and a 4-H member. She wants to be a Dairy Ambassador to help hand out ribbons at the county fair.
Dairy Ambassador Abby Rouland is the daughter of Tim and Kim Rouland of Clifton Springs. Abby is a 7th grader at Midlakes Middle School where she is a Peer Leader and a member of the Youth 2 Youth Club. She is an active member of the Giddy Up Gang 4-H club and New York Jr. Holstein Association. She is looking forward to promoting the dairy industry and talking to the public about the dairy industry.
Dairy Ambassador Grace Maslyn is the daughter of Peter and Julie Maslyn of Farmington. She is a member of the Barnyard Critters and Blue Ribbon Rabbits 4-H Clubs. She is also on the Ontario Wayne Dairy Bowl Team. She wants to be a Dairy Ambassador because she likes dairy and wants to be a princess like her sister Elizabeth.
