ONTARIO CO., N.Y. — The eleven member Ontario County Agricultural Enhancement Board (AEB) is seeking active farmers for two Board positions that are currently open. Both positions will fill current vacancies – one term expires December 31, 2018 and the other December 31, 2019.
The Board is made up of four active farmers, representatives of agri-businesses, organizations dedicated to farmland preservation and representatives from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County, the Ontario County Soil and Water Conservation District, the County Planning Department, the County Real Property Tax Department and Board of Supervisors. It meets approximately five times a year.
With its roots in the 1972 County Agricultural Districting Advisory Committee, the Board, as currently constituted, was established in 1993 by the County Board of Supervisors. Its purpose is to work with the agricultural community and organizations to enhance agriculture economic development and preserve farmland and to implement the requirements of the New York Agriculture & Markets Law, Article 25AA, Section 302.
