NEW ALBANY, Ohio — On Feb. 12 and 13, the Ohio Pork Council held the annual Ohio Pork Congress at the Crowne Plaza North in Columbus, Ohio, attracting more than 450 attendees and 70 trade show vendors. Ohio Pork Congress provides valued information for all involved in the pork industry – from farmers, to vendors and industry professionals.
“Ohio Pork Congress provides attendees the opportunity to network with industry professionals and learn more about innovative products and technologies that can positively impact on-farm production,” said Ohio Pork Council President Dave Shoup.
Tuesday’s Employee Symposium featured industry professionals who provided insights on employee issues, including: employment attraction and retention, recruitment strategies, work culture and H2A topics. Additionally, swine health experts hosted a tabletop exercise on Food Animal Diseases, specifically African Swine Fever. The evening program included the Live Auction and Reception, generating over $27,000 to benefit non-checkoff activities.
Wednesday’s Pork Producer Symposium included nationally recognized experts on pork production who spoke on a variety of topics pertinent to the industry. Wednesday’s program also included the highly anticipated Pork Congress Luncheon – where numerous deserving individuals were awarded for their contributions to the pork industry. Presentation of awards are as follows:
Pork Industry Excellence Award – Rick Fogle, Marion, Ohio
Ohio Pork Council Service Award – Carl Link, Fort Recovery, Ohio
Swine Manager of the Year – Nathan Isler, Marion, Ohio
Pork Promoter of the Year – Hord Family, Bucyrus, Ohio
Friend of Ohio Pork – Dr. Tony Forshey, Hebron, Ohio
During the two-day event, Ohio Pork Congress strives to provide attendees with valued information, resources and networking opportunities for the success of their operation and herd.
