EAST LANSING, Mich. — Ohio corn and soybean producers expect record yields this year, according to Cheryl Turner, State Statistician, USDA NASS, Ohio Field Office. The October Crop Production Report is based on conditions as of October 1, 2021. Some highlights of the report follow:
- Ohio expected corn yield is up 17 bushels from last year to 188 bushels per acre. Total production is forecast at 635 million bushels. If realized, the average Ohio corn yield would be a record.
- Ohio soybean production is expected to total 280 million bushels, up 4 percent from last year. The yield is forecast at 58 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from last year. If realized, Ohio soybean yields would be a record.
- Nationally, 2021 corn production for grain is forecast at 15.0 billion bushels and is anticipated to be the second highest production on record for the United States. The forecasted yield, at 176.5 bushels per acre, is up 3 percent from last year’s final estimate of 171.4 bushels per acre. If realized, this would be the second highest yield on record for the United States. Record high yields are forecast in California, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina
- U.S. 2021 soybean production is forecast at 4.45 billion bushels and is anticipated to be the highest production on record for the United States. The forecasted yield, at 51.5 bushels per acre, is up 0.9 bushel from the previous forecast and up 0.5 bushel from last year’s final estimate of 51.0 bushels per acre. If realized, this would be the second highest yield on record for the United States. Record high yields are forecast in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
