COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Sheep Improvement Association, the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, the Ohio Poultry Association, the Whitetail Deer Farmers of Ohio and other farmers recently testified in support of HB 553 in the House Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Sponsored by Rep. Don Jones, HB 553 will prohibit the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife from establishing a season for coyotes through rule and prohibit the requirement to have a fur taker permit to hunt or trap coyotes. The bill was introduced in response to proposed rules by the Division of Wildlife that would have created a season for coyotes and required a fur takers permit for hunting or trapping coyotes.
