MARYSVILLE, Ohio — The Ohio Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) will host more Cattlemen’s Academy Calving Clinics in 2020. OCA recognizes the importance of serving individual members across the state, and the goal of the Cattlemen’s Academy is to offer informative, hands-on learning experiences as part of a current OCA membership.
The Cattlemen’s Academy will be hosting additional calving clinics at multiple locations throughout Ohio in conjunction with the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University. Producers will learn how to determine calf presentations and more about calving assistance techniques and calving facility design. They will also be instructed on nutritional management of the prepartum cow and bull selection for calving ease. Experts from Ohio State and the cattle industry will be on-hand to instruct attendees and answer questions throughout the clinics.
The next calving clinic will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20 at the Ohio State University: Animal Science building in Franklin County, Ohio: 2029 Fyffe Road Columbus, OH 43210. The registration deadline for the clinic is Friday, Jan. 17. Another calving clinic will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the University of Findlay: Dr. C. Beckett Animal Science Center in Hancock County, Ohio: 14684 US – 68 Findlay, OH 45840. The registration deadline for this clinic is Friday, Feb. 14.
The Cattlemen’s Academy calving clinics are free for OCA members to attend. Those who are not current OCA members may still attend but must pay $75 per family upon registration. This cost includes clinic attendance and a 2020 OCA membership. A meal is included for each participant at each of the clinics, sponsored by Merck Animal Health. Producers should make plans to attend, or risk missing out on the chance to take part in this unique learning opportunity for their operations. Each clinic is limited to the first 60 registrants, so those interested should register early.
