OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, in partnership with the Oklahoma Ford Dealers is preparing for the 35th Anniversary of the OCA Ranch Rodeo on August 24 and 25 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla.
The OCA Ranch Rodeo consists of twelve ranch teams of ‘real ranch’ cowboys that compete in five different events mirroring many of the activities of daily ranch life.
The 2019 participating ranch teams include: Alfalfa County Land & Cattle, Cherokee, Okla.; Spur Ranch, Vinita, Okla.; Buford Ranches, LLC, Hominy, Okla.; Stuart Ranch, Waurika, Okla.; Drummond Land & Cattle Co., Pawhuska, Okla.; Hall Ranch & Daube Cattle Co., Comanche and Ardmore, Okla.; Treadwell Land & Cattle, Frederick, Okla.; Chain Ranch, Canton, Okla.; Lazy Rafter Slash Ranch, Lenapah, Okla.; Choctaw Nation Ranches, Durant, Okla.; Whitmire Ranch, Delaware, Okla.; and McPhail Land & Cattle, Mountain Park, Okla.
The competition is fierce, but the cowboys don’t take home much more than bumps and bragging rights. They participate with one goal: to support the Children’s Hospital Foundation (CHF).
“CHF has been the benefitting charity of the event since 1997 and in that time the OCA Ranch Rodeo has raised more than $500,000.00 for the Children’s Hospital Foundation,” said Tim Drummond, Chairman of the OCA Ranch Rodeo Committee. “We’ve hosted many ‘Miracle Children’ over the years and met their families. Those connections make our mission real and heart-felt for the participating cowboys and the committee the works to coordinate the event.”
CHF funds children’s medical research and treatment for children right here in Oklahoma. The funds raised for CHF in Oklahoma, stay in Oklahoma. “Over the years, many folks have started calling our event, ‘Cowboys Helping Kids’ and we are proud of that,” said Drummond. “Plan to come watch the show, support the Children’s Hospital Foundation and cheer on your favorite ranch team on Aug. 23 and 24.”
“The Oklahoma Ford Dealers believe in our mission and have been extremely loyal over the years,” Drummond said.
