ROME, N.Y. — The New York Beef Council continues to sizzle when it comes to educating regional dietitians and dietetic interns about beef nutrition, beef cookery, and social media savviness with their twice a year virtual cooking parties! During the Pandemic, NYBC capitalized on virtual cooking parties. The once-a-year in-person event executed at Sage College for 10 dietetic interns has grown to a twice-a-year intern cooking party that has educated over 50 dietetic interns and regional dietitians across New York State!
On March 3rd twenty-four RDs and RDs to-be logged in for a 90-minute webinar to learn about Beef from basic nutrition to cookery and how to apply this information via social media for aspiring dietetic bloggers. With the help of Michelle Barber, RD who delivered the Beef Nutrition 101, and expert social media influencer Christina Hitchcock of @itsakeeper blog, who guided attendees in a cook along, demonstrating the “Bowls with Balance – Greek” recipe https://www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com/recipes/recipe/6264/bowls-with-balance-greek
found on www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com. Christina then wrapped up the evening by sharing her blogger journey that would sure to inspire the next generation of social media nutrition influencers!
The attendees included dietetic interns from Sage College and Buffalo State University, plus practicing dietitians from around New York State. 100% of the attendees felt the nutrition information received during the event was helpful in assisting them in their future professions. After the cooking party, there was an increase in over 60% of the participants feeling they were more knowledgeable about how beef fits into a balanced diet along with an increase in the perception of beef.
One attendee commented, “I learned that beef can be incorporated into a healthy diet so I found this experience worthwhile! It was fun to watch Christina cook and her lecture regarding social media and influencing was very inspiring!”
NYBC’s nutrition program is financially supported by the Kansas and Nebraska Beef Councils. For more information on the event, contact Nutrition Manager Kameli McIntyre at kmcintyre@nybeef.org or Jean O’Toole at jotoole@nybeef.org.
