GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Northwest Region Sportsmen’s Roundtable invites hunters and anglers, or anyone who has thoughts about hunting and fishing related issues, to attend the next regional caucus, beginning at 6 p.m., Feb. 25, Mesa County Central Services, 200 South Spruce Street in Grand Junction.
In addition to wide-ranging discussions about a variety of topics, the Roundtable will need to elect a new regional delegate. Anyone interested in running for a spot on the Roundtable is encouraged to attend and give a short presentation or speech about their qualifications. Attendees will vote to select the new member during the meeting.
“We want to stress that this is not CPW’s meeting,” said Regional Manager JT Romatzke. “The Roundtable and attendees have the final word about what hunting and fishing topics they would like to discuss; however, CPW will be there to answer questions as needed.”
Romatzke says other matters he expects may come up include CPW’s five-year Big Game Season Structure, chronic wasting disease, herd management plans and new license fees and requirements.
“We’ve made good progress in the last year in terms of funding the future of this agency,” said Regional Manager JT Romatzke. “However, we know sportsmen have questions about our new fees and requirements. This is the time and place to get answers and provide feedback that will be relayed directly to CPW leadership.”
The Roundtable consists of four appointed members and two elected members from each region. Twice each year, the Statewide Roundtable meets with the CPW Director and other members of the agency’s leadership for detailed discussions about a variety of management challenges.
Elected members can serve two-year terms and are expected to organize regional caucus meetings and be available to constituents, serving as their representatives for regional concerns during the statewide meetings.
