EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — The Northern Plains Potato Growers Association has named its two Research and Education Foundation Scholarship winners for 2017. Two independent judges selected the winners using scoring guidelines based on academic achievement along with school and community involvement. Scholarship applicants must be from an NPPGA grower member family or an NPPGA Potato Associate family.
Amy Horter has been awarded one of the $1,000 Northern Plains Potato Growers Research and Education Foundation Scholarships. Amy is a graduate of Grafton, North Dakota High School with a 4.24 GPA with eight completed dual credit courses. Honors include Honor Roll 2013-17, National Honor Society 2014-17, Honor Usher. Active in Key Club, Student Council, FIDM Fashion Club, Cross Country, Track & Field, Academic Olympics, Yearbook, Band. Amy is also active in her church and with community volunteer work. Amy will be attending North Dakota State University majoring in Engineering with a preference towards Civil Engineering. Her parents are Clay and Gwen Horter of Perham, Minnesota.
Ann Halverson has also been awarded a $1,000.00 Northern Plains Potato Growers Research and Education Foundation Scholarship. Ann recently graduated from Barnesville, Minnesota High School with a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Ann was active in Student Council, Philanthropy and Youth, FFA, 4H, and attended Minnesota Girls State. She has been active in church and community activities. Ann also played volleyball, basketball, and softball for Barnesville High School. Next year Ann will be attending North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton. She will be pursuing a Registered Nursing Degree and playing softball for the Wildcats. She plans on attending Moorhead State after graduating from NDSCS and pursue a BA in Nursing. Ann is the daughter of Brenda Halverson and the granddaughter of Brian and Joanne Halverson of Baker, Minnesota.
