OLYMPIA, Wash. — Production of corn for grain, sugarbeets and potatoes is forecasted to be up for all three crops in Oregon and Idaho in 2020, but down for all three in the state of Washington, according to the Nov. 10 Crop Production report released by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service Northwest Regional Field Office.
Corn for Grain
Production of corn for grain in Idaho is forecast at 28.7 million bushels, down 7 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 140,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 205 bushels per acre, unchanged from 2019.
Washington corn for grain production is forecast at 25.2 million bushels, up 18 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 105,000 acres, is up 15,000 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 240 bushels per acre, up 3 bushels from the previous year.
Sugarbeets
Production of sugarbeets in Idaho is forecast at 6.91 million tons, up 7 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 172,000 acres, is up 7,000 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 40.2 tons per acre, up 1.2 tons from 2019.
Oregon sugarbeet production is forecast at 378,000 tons, up slightly from last year. Harvested area, at 9,400 acres, is down 400 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 40.2 tons per acre, up 1.7 tons from the previous year.
Washington sugarbeet production is forecast at 90,000 tons, down 1 percent from last year. Harvested area is estimated at 1,900 acres, down 100 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 47.5 tons per acre, up 2.1 tons from 2019.
Potatoes
Potato production in Idaho is forecast at 137 million cwt., up 4 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 300,000 acres, is down 8,000 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 455 cwt. per acre, up 30 cwt. from 2019.
Potato production in Oregon is forecast at 27.9 million cwt., up 10 percent from the previous year. Harvested area, at 45,000 acres, is up 2,100 from 2019. Yield is expected to be 620 cwt. per acre, up 30 cwt. from 2019.
Potato production in Washington is forecast at 96.3 million cwt., down 8 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 154,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2019. Yield is expected to be 625 cwt. per acre down 15 cwt. per acre from the previous year.
