FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine (AP) — The federal government is providing more than $4 million to a utilities district in far northern Maine to make improvements.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said it’s providing $4.3 million to the Fort Fairfield Utilities District, which serves an area that abuts New Brunswick, Canada. Half the money is in the form of a grant and the rest is a loan.
Bette Brand, the USDA’s undersecretary for rural development, said the grant is one of many around the country that is designed to bring more reliable water infrastructure to rural areas. The USDA is providing more than $280 million to 36 states to make the improvements.
