SYRACUSE, N.Y. — On July 18th, the Northeast Dairy Association, Inc. headquartered in N. Syracuse, New York announced the list of college scholarship winners for 2017. Applicants for the scholarships are required to be affiliated as direct family of association company members or have student membership.
A total of $16,000 in scholarships was awarded to 11 college students. Five scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to students in dairy or food science related majors. Six $1,000 scholarships were awarded to students enrolled in any major.
The scholarship qualifications include full time enrollment of an accredited school; community, industry or group involvement; GPA of 2.5 or better; recommendation letter; and short personal essay.
Bruce W. Krupke, Executive Vice President said “this year’s applications were very competitive; the students are actively involved and based on their qualifications are high quality individuals. We will be very fortunate to have these young adults find a career within the dairy industry in the next few years.”
Funding of the scholarships come directly from the association’s annual dairy industry clambake held the 2nd Wednesday every year in July. Member‘s dues supporting the association along with sponsorship of annual northeast dairy industry events help to fund the scholarships each year.

Kelsey Delaney – from Schenectady, NY attending Union College studying Environmental Policy & Political Science $1,000
Chase Gerhardt – from East Aurora, NY attending Daeman College studying Athletic Training $1,000
Lily Daily – from Lexington, KY attending University of Kentucky studying Communication Sciences & Disorders $1,000

Christopher Sweeney – from Appelton, NY attending Cornell University studying Animal Science/ concentration in Dairy $2,000
Remy Babbush – Merrick, NY attending Cornell University studying Food Science $2,000

In the attached picture is Bruce W. Krupke, Executive Vice President awarding scholarship winner Jenna Fryer who is attending Ohio State University in the food science program. Jenna was a $2,000.00 scholarship winner who said “I’m very happy to receive this award and will use it to further my education; I look forward to working in the food industry after graduation.”
Ozzie Orsillo, Director of Sales Adjacent Markets for Evergreen Packaging and President of Northeast Dairy Association, Inc. said “we are very pleased each year to assist member company family members in their college studies and future career plans, we need to continue to encourage our youth to enter the exciting world of the dairy industry and it’s many opportunities.”
NDA is an association of dairy industry suppliers and vendor companies, individuals and students. Scholarship information is made available each year after February 1 with applications due by June 1st. The information can be found on the association’s website at neastda.org.
