FARGO, N.D. — For the week ending October 17, 2021, there were 3.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 22% very short, 29% short, 44% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 29% very short, 32% short, 38% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Soybeans harvested was 81%, behind 91% last year, but ahead of 63% for the five-year average.
Winter wheat condition rated 10% very poor, 22% poor, 58% fair, 9% good, and 1% excellent. Winter wheat planted was 97%, near 94% last year, and ahead of 89% average. Emerged was 82%, near 81% last year, and ahead of 71% average.
Corn condition rated 15% very poor, 31% poor, 39% fair, 14% good, and 1% excellent. Corn mature was 97%, near 96% last year, and ahead of 85% average. Harvested was 42%, behind 51% last year, but well ahead of 21% average.
Sugarbeet condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 27% fair, 50% good, and 17% excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 31%, well behind 96% last year and 74% average.
Sunflower condition rated 9% very poor, 34% poor, 37% fair, 18% good, and 2% excellent. Sunflowers bracts turned brown was 94%, equal to last year, and near 92% average. Harvested was 20%, well behind 41% last year, and near 22% average.
Potatoes harvested was 78%, well behind 98% last year, and behind 84% average.
Dry edible beans harvested was 91%, behind 99% last year, but near 87% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 53% very poor, 27% poor, 16% fair, 4% good, and 0% excellent.
Stock water supplies rated 40% very short, 37% short, 23% adequate, and 0% surplus.
