FARGO, N.D. — For the week ending April 25, 2021, there were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 53% very short, 27% short, 19% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 52% very short, 26% short, 21% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Spring wheat planted was 22%, ahead of 4% last year and 10% for the five-year average. Emerged was 2%, equal to average.
Durum wheat planted was 10%, ahead of 3% last year and 4% average.
Winter wheat condition rated 17% very poor, 37% poor, 34% fair, 10% good, and 2% excellent.
Winter wheat jointed was 16%, ahead of 8% last year and 4% average.
Corn planted was 3%, near 2% average.
Canola planted was 1%, near 2% both last year and average.
Sugarbeets planted was 15%, ahead of 1% last year, but near 19% average.
Oats planted was 7%, near 3% last year and 9% average.
Barley planted was 14%, ahead of 2% last year and 6% average.
Dry edible peas planted was 8%, ahead of 1% last year, and near 7% average.
Flaxseed planted was 1%, near 2% average.
Potatoes planted was 4%, near 1% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Cattle and calf conditions rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 20% fair, 54% good, and 19% excellent. Cattle and calf death loss rated 3% heavy, 48% average, and 49% light. Calving progress was 76% complete, ahead of 65% last year.
Sheep and lamb conditions rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 15% fair, 61% good, and 21% excellent. Sheep and lamb death loss rated 1% heavy, 50% average, and 49% light. Lambing progress was 85% complete, near 83% last year. Shearing progress was 91% complete, equal to last year
Hay and roughage supplies rated 19% very short, 32% short, 44% adequate, and 5% surplus.
