TRENTON, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Agriculture Animal Emergency Working Group will hold its 20th Annual Symposium at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the New Jersey Public Health, Environmental & Agricultural Laboratory in Ewing to prepare animal emergency responders for the challenges they might face in a disaster.
The daylong seminar will focus on teams running their mock County Animal Response Team shelters while overcoming real-world challenges. The competitions will include: The Game of CART for the morning session, and the afternoon sessions will feature more of The Game of CART and JeopCARTy, ending at about 3:30 p.m.
The AEWG, which is under auspices of the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, develops and coordinates plans to protect animals during emergency situations. It oversees state and county animal response teams that work in the field during disasters and emergencies. The AEWG operates under the New Jersey Department of Agriculture’s Division of Animal Health and the New Jersey State Police, Office of Emergency Management.
Animal control officers, county emergency planners, animal response volunteers, veterinary-related personnel, police and others with an interest in assisting animals during emergency situations will attend the symposium.
