TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher along with state and local officials will highlight the state’s horse breeding and horse racing interests with a visit to Deo Volente Farms in Flemington today. A bill passed by the Legislature and signed earlier this year by Gov. Philip Murphy will add $20 million a year to horse racing purses around the state for the next five years.
Deo Volente Farms breeds Standardbred horses for racing and it is estimated that the number of Jersey-bred Standardbreds will almost triple this year due to increased purses. Deo Volente Farms is a 160-acre equine boarding and breeding facility and the visit will come in the midst of foaling season. Deo Volente Farms was founded in 2007 and was awarded New Jersey’s Standardbred Breeder of the Year in 2014 and the U.S. Trotting Association’s “Farm of the Future” in 2009.
After brief remarks, Secretary Fisher and other dignitaries will tour Deo Volente Farms.
Secretary Fisher will highlight horse racing in New Jersey at 10 a.m. today at Deo Volente Farms, 487 Quakertown Road, Flemington, New Jersey 08822.
