TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher and department staff will highlight the Jersey Fresh season at Eastern Fresh Growers in Cedarville in Cumberland County today at 10:30 a.m. touring asparagus fields and the packing facility.
New Jersey ranks in the top 10 in the production of several crops, including fourth in the nation in asparagus. The 2017 asparagus crop for New Jersey was valued at $12.4 million. The value for vegetable production for New Jersey in 2017 was $156 million, up more than $6 million from 2016. Other crops with an early harvest that are becoming available daily include kale, lettuce, radishes and spinach. Crops also expected to be widely available soon are beets and strawberries.
