TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher and state and local officials will visit Macrie Brothers Blueberry Farm in Hammonton to highlight Jersey Fresh Blueberries on Thursday as July is National Blueberry Month.
Blueberries were New Jersey’s No. 1 crop in terms of production value in 2017 at nearly $84 million with 10,000 acres harvested according to the USDA. New Jersey is also annually one of the top six producers of blueberries in the U.S.
Macrie Brothers Farm has been growing blueberries for 65 years and farms approximately 800 acres. Thursday’s visit will include a short walk into the blueberry fields and a tour of the packing facility. New Jersey’s blueberry production during the peak of the season can reach as high as 250,000-300,000 crates per day.
