DEERFIELD, N.H. — The New Hampshire Maple Producers Association (NHMPA) is pleased to announce their return to the Deerfield Fair this year! After a hiatus in 2020, the event is back in full swing, and so is NHMPA’s participation. Members and maple producers will be at the Fair’s Sugar House each day of the Fair, offering locally made NH maple products, including maple syrup, maple cream, maple candy, maple cotton candy, maple nuts, and maple ice cream.
The fair provides an opportunity not only to sell NH maple products but also to educate fairgoers on New Hampshire’s maple industry. Four to five NH maple producers will be operating the Sugar House at all times to talk with attendees and answer questions. With their expertise and the retired evaporator in the Sugar House, maple producers will demonstrate and explain the maple-making process. NHMPA Vice President Andrew Chisholm said he expects turnout to be larger than normal at the fair this year and said producers are excited to show why local NH maple syrup is the best there is.
NHMPA participation at New Hampshire fairs has always been an important part of its outreach. Member Darrell Fisk, who has been involved in NHMPA’s work at state fairs for many years, explained that participation in fairs started as strictly a way to sell maple products before the upcoming maple season. It has since evolved to be an opportunity to interact with and educate consumers during the off-season. While this year the association is attending only the Deerfield Fair, they usually can be found at other NH fairs, including the Lancaster Fair and Hopkinton Fair, as well as other regional events like the Eastern States Exposition. Individual producers also have tents with their own products at farmers’ markets, fairs, and festivals throughout the state.
