MOROCCO, Ind. — Newton County Food Pantry received a ground pork donation from Indiana Pork Young Professionals Conference attendees to help with the supply of meat due to the rising market costs.

Holly Porter is the Executive Director of Newton County Community Services, where she spends her time running their local food pantry.

“The donation of pork is going to be such a huge help to the people we serve,” Porter stated. “The majority of our clients are seniors and families, many living on fixed incomes. These families rely on food pantries like ours to feed their families, especially with the rising costs of pork and other meats and foods.”

The Young Professionals group donated 200 pounds of ground pork, which is enough to provide 800 meals to the residents of Newton County. The students also volunteered their time to restock and organize the pantry’s storage room, as well as pack boxes for the staff to pass out throughout the upcoming week.

“Families are having a difficult time purchasing food,” Porter told the group, “The donation of the pork will be going to families who desperately need it.”

The Newton County Food Bank donation is part Indiana pig farmers year-round effort to support Indiana food banks and charitable organizations. A portion of other donations include Wheeler Mission, Gleaners Food Bank, the Ronald McDonald House, and food pantries in Cass and Wabash County.
