RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — A backyard chicken in Ronkonkoma, N.Y. was just named Miss Fancy Feathers in the Purina® Miss Flock-Tober® pageant. Local flock raiser Amy Frances entered to compete against hundreds of strong hens to earn this honor.
“We try not to have favorites, but our hen, Mopsy, is definitely one of our top backyard chickens,” says Frances. “Not only is she gorgeous, fancy and photogenic, she’s a really sweet bird.”
Miss Flock-Tober®, hosted by Purina Animal Nutrition on the Purina Poultry Facebook page, celebrates strong hens during this annual contest. Frances submitted her photo of Mopsy the Bantam White Polish hen. As the winner of this round, Mopsy is now in the running to win the ultimate title of Miss Flock-Tober® 2019, with the grand prize being a year’s supply of Purina® poultry feed.
“If we win Miss Flock-Tober®, my daughter Peyton and I would like to give back and donate our winnings to local rescues,” continues Frances. “We are just so excited Mopsy has been named Miss Fancy Feathers!”
This year’s Miss Flock-Tober® contest is eggs-tra special, as Purina is celebrating 125 years of innovation. The Purina® Flock-Tober® celebration continues through this month.
The next round of Miss Flock-Tober® begins October 21 with the category of Miss Performance. The top entry in each round of the Miss Flock-Tober® contest will move on to the finale round, which begins November 4.
