BOSCAWEN, N.H. — After about a three-year gap due to COVID complications, the UNH Extension Dairy Specialist in Dairy Production position vacated by Michal Lunak, has now been filled by Dr. Sara Allen of Western New York.
The Specialist’s primary office location has been moved from the traditional North Haverhill Extension office in Grafton County to the Merrimack County office in Boscawen. This was done to make the specialist more centrally located to all dairies and state agencies to facilitate cooperation in public relations and policy development. The Merrimack County office also places the specialist closer to UNH where their secondary office is located, as they will spend time at UNH collaborating with researchers and students, participating in applied research, teaching, and mentoring.
Sarah was born and raised in Arkansas and earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Animal Science from Mississippi State University. After getting her Master’s degree, Sarah moved to North Carolina where she received a doctorate at North Carolina State University with a focus in dairy nutrition and management. Sarah worked closely with the North Carolina dairy Extension team during her stay there.
After completing her doctorate, Sarah pursued a career in dairy consulting with Purina Animal Nutrition in Western New York but has now decided to return to her roots in Extension. Sarah is excited to join the New Hampshire Extension team. She will be starting on November 14, and she is anxious to get out and visit our dairy producers.
A reception for Sarah is being held on Thursday, November 17 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Contoocook Creamery, the Bohanan Farm, 945 Penacook Road, Contoocook, NH. There will be dairy products and a light lunch. It would be helpful, but not required, to RSVP to carl.majewski@unh.edu or 603-352-4550.
