OKLAHOMA CITY — While the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association’s Range Round-Up has a new look and a new name, the mission remains the same.
The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association in partnership with Oklahoma Ford Dealers set out on a mission back in 1985 to provide family entertainment, promote beef and raise money for charity. In preparation for the 34th Annual event, the committee voted to change the event name to, OCA Ranch Rodeo.
“Our loyal fans will notice the name change and the new look right off,” said Tim Drummond, Chairman of the OCA Ranch Rodeo Committee. “But our mission remains the same.”
According to Drummond, for the last 20 years, the selected charity has been the Children’s Hospital Foundation. CHF funds children’s medical research and treatment for children right here in Oklahoma. The event is often referred to as, ‘Cowboys Helping Kids’. Last year’s donation was $22,000 for a total of more than $475,000 given to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The OCA Ranch Rodeo consists of twelve ranch teams of ‘real ranch’ cowboys that compete in five different events mirroring many of the activities they do on the ranch. The competition is fierce, but the cowboys don’t take home much more than bumps and bragging rights when it’s all said and done.
“We participate because we enjoy the comradery and the opportunity to educate and entertain the general public by showcasing some real ranch activities,” said Doug Branch, long-time participant with the Buford Ranch team. “When you add in the fact that a large portion of the proceeds are given to charity, it makes participating very worthwhile.”
The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association and Oklahoma Ford Dealers extend an invitation to you to attend the OCA Ranch Rodeo, August 24 and 25 at the Lazy E Arena. Learn more at www.okcattlemen.org.
“Our hope is that the name change, and fresh logo will clarify what the event is and attract a more attendees, ultimately helping more Oklahoma children,” Drummond concluded.
