TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey farmers plan to plant 110 thousand soybean acres in 2022, up from the 100 thousand acres last year according to Bruce Eklund, State Statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Jersey Field Office. They intend to harvest hay from 96 thousand acres, down from 98 thousand acres last year. Growers plan to plant 76 thousand acres of corn, down 2 thousand acres from 2021. They planted wheat to 26 thousand acres, up 3 thousand acres from last year.

Soybean planted area for 2022 is estimated at a record 91.0 million acres, up 4% from last year. Compared with last year, planted acreage is up or unchanged in 24 of the 29 estimating States. Corn planted area for all purposes in 2022 is estimated at 89.5 million acres, down 4% or 3.87 million acres from last year. Compared with last year, planted acreage is expected to be down or unchanged in 43 of the 48 estimating States.
The acreage estimates in this report are based primarily on surveys conducted during the first two weeks of March. The March Agricultural Survey is a probability survey that includes a sample of approximately 73,000 farm operators selected from a list of producers that ensures all operations in the United States have a chance to be selected.
