FRANKFORT — Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles and the Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) have announced a new logo for the nationwide Homegrown By Heroes agricultural marketing program.
“The new Homegrown By Heroes logo refreshes the brand while more accurately representing active-duty members of the armed forces and military veterans in agriculture,” Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles said. “Since the program’s start in 2013, the KDA and the FVC have worked together to highlight the many farmer-veterans around Kentucky and our nation. The Homegrown By Heroes brand provides an opportunity for consumers to say ‘thank you’ to our farming heroes by purchasing agricultural products with this modern logo.”
Last year, the KDA and the FVC signed a memorandum of understanding to allow active-duty service members to participate in the agricultural marketing program and extended the national partnership between the two organizations through 2021.
The Farm Credit Council led the effort to refresh the logo in association with the FVC and the KDA. While honoring the traditional logo, the new branding adds a female service member alongside a male to pay tribute to the many female farmer-veterans and active-duty service women across the nation. The new logo also includes a new typeface and a modern color scheme.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition is a national organization based in Davis, California, that seeks to help veterans find employment and careers in agriculture. The KDA owns the rights to the Homegrown By Heroes name and logo, and licenses those rights to the Coalition.
Homegrown By Heroes was created by the KDA in 2013 to promote agricultural products produced by military veteran farmers. The KDA and the Coalition announced an agreement to scale the program nationally on Veterans Day 2013. The Coalition’s website, farmvetco.org, says the program has more than 1,000 members in all 50 states.
