WASECA, Minn. — On Oct. 8, 2022, attendees at Farmamerica’s Pumpkin Party will make history as they are among the first to experience the new interactive Ag Around You Discovery Center at Farmamerica, Minnesota’s Agricultural Interpretive Center in southern Minnesota.
The grand opening of new exhibits is part of Farmamerica’s Rooted & Growing capital campaign to expand and renovate existing facilities, upgrade a classroom space, and offer year-round agriculture-literacy opportunities. Although most of the funds have been secured, Farmamerica is still 20 percent away from their $850,000 goal. Current donors will be recognized during the invitation-only ribbon cutting ceremony followed by the Pumpkin Party which is open to the general public. Top donors include Minnesota Corn Growers, Dr. Ed Frederick and family, Crystal Valley, and the State of Minnesota.
Farmamerica’s Pumpkin Party is a family-friendly event that celebrates all things fall with pumpkin carving and decorating, trick-or-treating, petting zoo, corn maze, wagon rides, tractor parade, food trucks, games, and photo opps. Admission includes a pumpkin, apple cider and access to the new exhibits in the Ag Around You Discovery Center. Pre-sale tickets are available at Farmamerica.org/pumpkinparty and prices increase at the door.
“The Board of Directors and Farmamerica staff couldn’t wait any longer to share the story of today’s agriculture. The Ag Around You Discovery Center will help consumers discover their everyday connections to agriculture and Minnesota farmers,” explains Jessica Rollins, Farmamerica Executive Director.
Last summer, Farmamerica remodeled their Welcome Lobby and began construction on the new exhibit space. Soon visitors will be able to experience new exhibits and explore the Crystal Valley classroom in the feed mill. “With a mission to connect people to the evolving story of agriculture, we are thrilled to finally include a permanent space dedicated to the story of agriculture in our daily lives,” Rollins says.
