MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. — Wright County 4-H Shooting Sports is seeking adult leaders and youth members for the disciplines of archery, air rifle/BB gun, small bore rifle .22 caliber, air pistol, shotgun (11 years of age and older), small bore pistol (14 and older), muzzle loading (11 years of age and older), hunting and outdoor skills, and western heritage.
A 4-H member may only be enrolled in a 4-H shooting sports project if the project is led by a certified 4-H shooting sports volunteer. Potential shooting sports volunteers work with University of Missouri Extension Youth Development Specialist Janice Emery to become a volunteer and attend the shooting sports certification workshop.
The shooting sports project includes many options for 4-H members. Youth learn safe gun handling skills and sound fundamentals of shooting under the guidance of caring and knowledgeable adult volunteers.
“The focus of the Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports program is the total development of the young person. The shooting sports and related natural resource activities are a vehicle for human growth and development,” said Emery.
The shooting sports program attracts new audiences as well as enhances the traditional 4-H club program. As with all Missouri 4-H projects, shooting sports is open to any youth from ages of 8 through 18.
