EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Northeast Cooperative Council will host the 70th Cooperative Leaders Forum, Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Doubletree by Hilton, East Syracuse, NY (Exit 35, NYS Thruway). The theme for the event is Leading Cooperatives Strategically. Larry Kaagan, President of Kaagan Research, LLC will speak to the evolving perspectives of consumers’ trends and fads in the farm and food sector. Bart McGloin and Andrew Reading, Dopkins & Company, LLP will provide observations when working with cooperative businesses in the strategic planning process and leadership transition.
Cooperative boards of directors provide strategic direction for an organization and periodically are tasked with hiring and transitioning to a new Chief Executive Officer. Celeste Kane-Stebbins, Yankee Farm Credit Board Chair, Neal Rea, Agri-Mark, Inc. Retired Board Chair, and Laurie Griffen, Farm Credit East Vice Chair will provide a board point of view and insights into best practices to adopt and pitfalls to avoid when hiring a new CEO.
The Leaders Forum will culminate with the evening banquet featuring speaker Nicole Malachowski presented by CoBank, ACB. Nicole was the first woman Thunderbird pilot. She is a combat veteran and former flight squadron leader. She served as a White House Fellow and Advisor. Her distinguished career exceeded her wildest dreams until a tick-borne disease left her unable to walk or talk for 10 months. She fought back and encourages people to whom she speaks to rethink the challenges they face every day.
