FARGO, N.D. — Julie Garden-Robinson, North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension food and nutrition specialist and professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, was elected as the president-elect for the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) during the annual business meeting on Nov. 4. She is the first president-elect ever elected from North Dakota. NEAFCS, with 1,800 active members, educates and recognizes Extension professionals who impact the quality of life for individuals, families and communities.
“I was pleased to be elected to this leadership position, and I’m excited about the impact our profession has in North Dakota as well as throughout the country,” said Garden-Robinson. “As part of the Land Grant outreach mission, our members help people in communities throughout the United States on topics including nutrition, food safety, family science, family financial management, disaster education and many others.”
Garden-Robinson has provided strong leadership of NEAFCS in the past as vice president for awards and recognition and vice president of public affairs. She also has provided leadership to North Dakota’s chapter of NEAFCS as president and public affairs committee chair.
“NDSU Extension is proud of Julie and excited to see her future vision and leadership of NEAFCS,” said Carrie Johnson, interim assistant director, family and community wellness. “She is a dedicated professional who strives to move the profession of family and consumer sciences forward.”
Garden-Robinson has worked for NDSU Extension since 1997. In her time, she has provided exceptional outreach through multiple educational programs, newsletters, articles and training of NDSU Extension agents across the state in the area of nutrition, food safety and health.
