BISMARCK, N.D. — In celebration of North Dakota Farm Bureau Week, March 5-11, NDFB turned the focus to the backbone of agriculture, farmers and ranchers. NDFB wants to thank and recognize all those who make up our state’s largest and most renewable economic sector, agriculture.
NDFB asked farmers, why do they farm?
“I farm because it’s family and tradition. I farm because it’s the opportunity for the next generation. I farm because it involves technology and innovations and it’s also a daily challenge. I’ve never turned down a challenge and neither has my family. Farming is our future and I believe in our future,” Katie Heger, NDFB member.

A statewide drawing contest for 4th and 5th grade students asked participants to portray, “Why farmers farm.” Over 150 entrees were submitted for the contest.
Fourth grade winner is Julianna Mayer from Mott, N.D. Fifth grade winner is John Mewes from Mayville, N.D. Both students will receive $50.
Congratulations to the winners. Other drawing entries will be added to NDFB’s Facebook page throughout North Dakota Farm Bureau Week. You can view NDFB’s Facebook page by going to, Facebook.com/NorthDakota/
