BISMARCK, N.D. — The North Dakota Beef Commission (NDBC) is partnering with the Bismarck Larks and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to promote beef at the ballpark this summer. Both minor league baseball teams will highlight beef in a variety of ways during games throughout their upcoming summer seasons.
The Bismarck Larks and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks baseball teams will be partnering with North Dakota beef producers this summer to promote beef at the ballpark. Using beef checkoff dollars, the North Dakota Beef Commission (NDBC) is assisting both minor league baseball teams in highlighting beef in a variety of ways during games throughout their upcoming summer seasons.
The Bismarck Larks will hold United We Steak Saturdays, where fans will be asked to grill their favorite beef item and send a picture via social media. Also planned for Saturday games is the Beefed-Up Home Run Derby. Held prior to the days’ games, six people will be selected to compete against Larks players in a home run derby competition. Between Memorial Day and July, anyone who buys beef steak at a grocery store, meat market, restaurant, or directly from a ranch can also bring their beef receipts to the ballpark and receive one of 500 Larks grilling spatulas courtesy of the NDBC.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will feature a Beef Batter of the Game at each home game. If that batter gets a hit, a section of the ballpark will win Beef Battle Bucks. These “bucks” will be redeemable for bonus beef products with the purchase of beef sponsored by Prime Cut Meats in Fargo. Radio commercials highlighting beef will also air during the RedHawks games. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks’ season home opener is Tuesday, May 25, and the Bismarck Larks open the season at home on Monday, May 31.
“We want to capitalize on the summer grilling season and the ability to gather again this summer, whether at the ballpark or in the backyard,” says NDBC Executive Director Nancy Jo Bateman. “Beef products are the top grilling items nationwide and we want to help create demand for beef in North Dakota through these ballpark promotions.”
Governor Doug Burgum has also declared “May is Beef Month” in North Dakota to recognize the beef industry’s vital contribution to North Dakota’s economy and to help producers and consumers launch into the summer grilling season. A variety of promotions and activities are taking place across the state to celebrate Beef Month.
The NDBC, representing North Dakota beef producers, manages the state beef checkoff program with the mission of enhancing beef demand by strengthening consumer trust and exceeding consumer expectations. This is accomplished through programs and activities in the areas of promotion, research and consumer information. For additional information on Beef Month activities and the NDBC, visit ndbeef.org.
