PITTSBORO, N.C. — Chloe Johnson, NC Local Safety Produce Coordinator from the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, and Chip Simmons, Area Specialized Agent in Food Safety from NC State University, will lead a low-cost workshop on the basics of food safety in fruit and produce production, the basics of FSMA’s requirements, and the specific requirements for a Harmonized GAP+ Plus Certification.
Many wholesale buyers are increasing their food safety requirements and asking growers to be audited to a GFSI-benchmarked standard. The USDA offers a GFSI technically equivalent standard–the Harmonized GAP+ Plus audit. A grower can easily transition to this Standard from the more familiar GAP/GHP or HGAP Standards.
This workshop will update growers on food safety developments and the latest best practices, but will also help ease the transition to a HGAP+ Plus compliant food safety plan. CFSA has a newly edited HGAP+ Plus Food Safety Plan template that will be distributed to all attendees.
