BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. — Native plants are adapted to this region’s soils and climate, and require little maintenance once established. They are a valuable food source for many insects and birds that many ornamental plants cannot provide. Native plants have strong, extensive root systems that help rainwater infiltrate deep into the soil and protect the soil from erosion. Wildflowers and grasses can also enhance the beauty of any landscape.
Love Creek County Park and Nature Center and the Berrien Conservation District are partnering together to encourage planting of these native plants.
The Berrien Conservation District is taking orders for flats and quarts of plants native to this region. Visit www.berriencd.org for online ordering. If you would like to have an order form mailed to you please call 269-471-9111 extension 3 and leave a message. Order deadline is Friday, May 22nd.
Orders will be available to pick up on Saturday, June 6 from 11am to 3pm at Love Creek County Park and Nature Center, 9292 Huckleberry Road, Berrien Center, MI 49102.
