LEXINGTON, Ky. — The month of February is National Pesticide Safety Education Month and is an initiative of the National Stakeholder Team for Pesticide Safety Education Programs (PSEPs). This is the first year in which we recognize pesticide safety education programs with this initiative. Pesticide safety and proper pesticide stewardship is in everyone’s interest. PSEPs at University of Kentucky and other land-grant institutions educate pesticide handlers and users about safe pesticide transport, storage, application, and disposal.
Producers who apply pesticides to agricultural crops that enter commerce are required to renew their certification as private or commercial pesticide applicators. Every 3 years, applicators are required to re-certify. For more information and educational materials for pesticide users in Kentucky visit the UK Pesticide Safety Education Program website to obtain more information.
National Pesticide Safety Education Month highlights the need for education to ensure safe pesticide use practices. Visit the National Pesticide Safety Education Month webpage to learn more about this new initiative, access helpful information, do a self-assessment of personal pesticide safety practices, and more.
