TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey farmers reaped an average of 46 bushels per acre of soybeans in 2020, according to Bruce Eklund, state statistician of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New Jersey Field Office. This is up from an average of 37 bushels per acre in 2019.
Corn harvested for grain increased 12 thousand acres to 80 thousand acres in 2020.
Area harvested for alfalfa and alfalfa mixes for hay acreage increased by 5 thousand acres to 16 thousand acres in 2020.
All Other Hay Acres Harvested increased 10 thousand acres to 90 thousand acres harvested in 2020.
Nationally, soybean production in 2020 totaled 4.14 billion bushels, up 16 percent from 2019. Corn for grain production in 2020 was estimated at 14.2 billion bushels, up 4 percent from the 2019 estimate.
